Deception Island
As per custom, immediately before dinner, we gather in the lounge for a recap session. It is a time for unwinding the day, relaxing, and setting our sights on tomorrow. Last night was a bit different, because we were told that a landing was planned for 9PM. Hey, that's my bed time!
Deception Island is a ridge of land, forming the letter C. This odd shape represents the caldera of a volcano... the upper rim of it's tippy-top. Here, in this remote area of the Southern Ocean, nearly the entire volcanic mountain is submerged by the ocean. In the past, during more active phases, the volcanic heat could warm the water slightly, and people have taken a swim. Well, this volcano must be sleeping these days, because there was nothing warm about the sea water filling her inner chalice! I really can't blame you for not joining me on this one...

Re: Deception Island
Was that really you....totally submerged????????? Great video...did you hear me applaud.... and which side is the island on Atlantic or Pacific and can you tell the difference like when you see the Atlantic and the Caribbean...there is such a distinct difference in the color almost like God drew a line in the waters. Really....no sunset? I guess as we move towards 12-21 it's daylight 24 hours.
