Fulfilled

Wed 1 December, 2010

4,200! The ship covered 4,200 miles. I find that astounding; just consider it a moment. And we devoured 92,000 gallons of fuel. What an amazing, storybook journey we have had. It was absolutely everything that it was proclaimed to be. We are now full; full of memories, rare experiences, new friends, and about ten new pounds from all of the fabulous food. It's a shame we can't share that around too!

This final post conveys a great deal of gratitude. How can we not be immensely thankful for the magnificence of this Earth? From the non-polluted snow and ice of Antarctica, the majesty of the Southern Ocean, and the mass of wildlife that still considers us with curiosity rather than fear. And then lets give a nod to the miracle of technology that allowed us here at blendingtogether to share it all as it happened. Thank you for coming along! Thank you for sharing your love and support! Many times you wrote, but for those that didn't I could feel you there just the same. Some of you helped to carry a bag when it felt too heavy, many of you pointed out something lovely to behold, and then there were the ones that silently tucked me in at night. There was never, ever a moment that I felt alone. Thank you!

There is quite a bit of video footage for me to sift through. And I would like to take you onto those amazing landings in South Georgia, so that you can relive the unbelievable sights and sounds of the dazzling colonies of penguins, seals, and birds. The smells you will have to remember on your own! Stay tuned for the logistics of that sharing to unfold. You deserve it!

Home SafelyHome SafelyUntil then, rest assured that we have made it home just fine. Till next time, I hope you squeeze every joyful moment out of each day; and savour the flavor of a life full of smiles. And if you need to use your imagination, well then, I hope you paint a very lovely scene, and invite me there.

Re: Fulfilled

Thanks to you too for inviting us!!! It was an awesome trip! I am going to take a nap..that trip home was exhausting.

Re: Fulfilled

What a great trip! In some ways glad you are home but in other ways sad that this trip had to end.

Re: Fulfilled

What a wonderful adventure it was. Thanks for inviting us along.
Your bags are always lighter than your ultrasound equipment.

Re: Fulfilled

I have followed this trip and been so envious, well except for the cold part. Thank you for the beautiful photos and the hilarious commentary! I am curious about the final passage home, was it calm? Was it crazy? Did they have to strap you to your bunk to keep you from hanging over the side for a picture of the waves? Welcome home! Can't wait to hear all about it.

Re: Fulfilled

To Adrienne. THAT was very funny!!!

Re: Fulfilled

You are all great! It is good to come home and know that we can now all share a laugh together and a wink of knowing! We did it together.

The pictures almost make me crazy... cute for sure... but the sounds and movement are missing.  I pledge to make a great video for all of you.

Karen,,, the Drake was fun. The captain gave it a six out of ten for severity. It didn't throw me out of bed, but the movement was even better. In addition to rolling side to side, and head to foot in random patterns, we got to add up and down!!!! Loved it!

Re: Fulfilled

Deb,

This has been a fabulous and eye-opening experience! To all those things you are thankful for, I would add my appreciation for your enthusiasm, love of life and great writing.

It sounded like the Drake was just a fun, extended roller coaster ride for you!

Welcome home. (hug)
