Our first video

Fri 12 November, 2010

We are in Stanley, the only real town in the Falkland Islands. Currently we are sitting at the visitor center; we'll be here for the entire morning because it's a true delight to have some internet time. I've managed to upload for us the absolutely un-edited colony footage we collected yesterday morning at New Island. I hope you enjoy the magnificence of really being there.

Yesterday afternoon saw us at another island called Carcass Island, and we had two wonderful surprises there. Are you just a bit curious for the details of what transpired after you walked off with that other group?

Beginning tomorrow we will have two full days at sea in order to arrive at South Georgia. That will give us plenty of time to enjoy sharing our memories.

Re: Our first video

Hi Deb,
Thanks for sharing the little Penguins, I do have a great affection for these creatures, loved the little Rockhopper hopping with the stick in his beak... I recall Port Stanley from the Falklands War when the Argentinians & British fought, so many were lost in a short period back in 1982 I am interested to see how it looks today, I am sure it is still breathtaking, have a wonderful weekend.
Love Karen

Re: Our first video

Awesome, just awesome!!! I especially liked the rock hoppers at the little pool of water.

Re: Our first video

What a great video! I just love it!!!

Re: Our first video

I love how you caught the rock hopper penguins hopping rocks! Thanks for sharing Deb

Re: Our first video

seriously, they were all talking at once and I couldnt figure out one word that they were saying Smile
Did you know that the Rockhopper's yellow head feathers (which probably have a more scientific name) act as weather vanes?

Re: Our first video

Love that those little guys (the penguins) don't seem to mind us humans in their midst.

Re: Our first video

What a wonderful experience.
I would love to do what you are doing now and I think I speak for many who do the daily grind.
It's like living in a scene from tv where you lie in bed and watch the Discovery Channel and think to yourself, I would love to do what they do, hang it up for a month and just go.

One thing, not to be too critical, the microphone needs one of those foam things to cut down on the wind noise and a few off the wall comments would be nice like,
this penguins going to catch hell when he gets home, he only brought one piece of grass with him to build the nest.
What does this bird think he's doing? She doesn't look to impressed.

Besides all that great job, I love it.

Jim
