Two full days at sea to get here. And another two will be waiting in order for us to reach Antarctica. So what's all the fuss about South Georgia? Is it really worth such an effort? Yes!
Twice daily we go ashore to different locations; hoping around the coves and visiting the colonies of animals, feeling like school children. Scattered around these landings are meals, which you and I are not missing, even when it seems we cannot eat another bite. Let me just say that no plate is ever less than completely cleaned on this ship. All that's left is sleeping... and even that is nipped at, due to early morning landings to watch the sunrise, and for seals to rub the sleep from their big doe-eyes.
The weather has been beyond expectations. The ocean is nearly as calm as a lake, due to calm winds, and the sky is blue with clouds making interesting shapes. This afternoon we hiked again to witness vistas that could make your heart sing, and eyes weep. And just an hour ago we all shared a toast at the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton. If you don't know about his story, I highly recommend the book or movie. Sometimes a true story is worthy of attention, as it has the infinite power to elevate our character.
Here is a short video, found on the internet, which can give you a feeling for South Georgia:
You suggested that I not worry about it. But it's not really worry, I reply, its more like frustration. We've been collecting some of the most wonderful video footage here in South Georgia. In order to assemble a small movie, we must select one snippet over another. This is part of the editing process. Just the thought of that problem is vexing; but I know that the frustration is telling me to look at the situation another way. Therefore, my current plan is to create a DVD (Mom: a DVD means a longer movie, maybe 60 mins.) rather than a small video, as we are used to in the past. It will be like our own nature program. And of course anyone interested in a copy will receive one! Until then, I will randomly pick snippets for your enjoyment. Hopefully I can get one to you soon.

Re: Understood
Food-YUM, eat all that we can
Sleep-who needs it, we are living on the highs of our senses with what we are seeing and experiencing, we can sleep when we get home
Video snippets are great keep them coming until we get the full DVD later-don't waste our valuable time on this adventure editing when we can do it later.
Smooth sailing, thanks so much for bringing us along! You are the BEST!
