Andorra Video

Tue 19 January, 2010

Skiing in Andorra was wonderful, and you went with me! In many ways the Pyrenees reminded me of the Colorado Rockies, but a bit closer together. There were no crowds or lines of any sort at the lifts. Even though we only hit the slopes for a half day, we were able to really absorb the experience... and thankfully we didn't have any major spills! I hope  you enjoy this tiny presentation.

The next morning we began our drive north from the high snow covered mountains, down into the smaller summits of southern France. The green pine treed mountains were just as beautiful; with small villages scattered here and there between them. It was necessary to climb up and over several mountain ranges, often along roads that continually switchbacked their way to move forward.

French SceneryFrench SceneryIt was nearly three or four hours later that we arrived at Montsegur, France. We were very remote in this tiny village. Actually for the entire journey it was uncommon to see another car; but this became even more apparant as we progressed. In Montsegur it was so quiet it seemed closed. The shutters were fastened against the cold wettness of the day, but the presence of modern cars confirmed that I was not alone.

The "secure mountains" of Montsegur surround the village, and atop one large "pog" sits the somewhat reconnstructed remains of a Cathar Castle. There are Cathar castles on quite a few of the mountain tops in this region of Southern France. If you are interested in the history of the Cathars, I'll refer you to Wikipedia! Most of the people that visit Montsegur do so in the warmer months to visit this Cathar history. There's also a bit about Nazi interest in Montsegur. But we came here to just absorb the lovely ambiance of a tiny French village nestled in the mountains and fog. This was also a favorite refuge for Mary Magdalene in the years following the Resurrection. She returned here frequently, apparently loving it dearly.

There is no movie of Montsegur. But you can enjoy a collection of photos on our carousel or in the gallery.

Re: Andorra Video

Deb,
I am so enjoying this journey with you.  I thought I really liked Andorra best so far but now that we are in Montsegur I'm not so sure.  I am surely a country girl.  Thanks for the update. Live Well, Laugh Often and Love Much- Joy
