Madeira Video

Sun 14 February, 2010

The bags were only partially unpacked from our voyage to Atlantis, and I was already consumed with thoughts and plans about our next adventure. That immediate infatuation surprised me; and it has taken a supreme effort of will to back up, turn around, and finish up this final page of our chapter in the Atlantic. The island of Madeira, Portugal was uniquely memorable as we experienced its lush and vibrantly earthy embrace during our day hike along the levada. Someday I'd like to return to Madeira for a longer stay, and I think this video reminder of our visit to the heart of its mountains will always rekindle that desire. There was no rain that day, but you may want to wear a waterproof jacket just the same... and maybe bring a flashlight.

We met quite a number of exceptional people during this trip. Idriss, our fun-loving Scooter and Barcelona Guru was a fan favorite. You've just met Ruth, our incredibly knowledgeable world traveler and mountain climber from Britain. There was Don and Bess from Scotland who accompanied us to Casablanca. I don't have a picture unfortunately, but if you were to see them you would fall in love with their warmth and gentleness. And finally, we will never forget our fellow Cruising Americans: Jim, from Michigan, who often had us laughing uncontrollably at dinner, is also a first class world traveler. And last, but far from least, would be Steve and Paula. They felt like family from our first moment together. Truly an inspiring couple, who plan to travel as a life style. They've literally "sold it all" for a life of adventure. Just beginning their travels in Paris a few months back, I, for one, am eager to follow their exuberance as they see what this beautiful world has in store for them. They have not only shown their willingness to explore, but have stepped forward and are living the "life uncommon" with a minimum of material possessions. Bravo! I'm sure that what they find along the way will be more than what they could even imagine.

Re: Madeira Video

Thank you Don for sharing the Video.  My visit to Madeira was way too short, and I will return.  I look forward to creating more adventures that are fun to share... the world is full of options.  And Madeira was truly a highlight worth another longer look Smile
