Safe And Sound

The man at the airport security check point looked down at my passport and smiled. There didn't seem to be a reason, and it certainly wasn't the photo. When he looked up he said my name aloud in a bemusing sort of way and then declared that I had the name of a writer. We both laughed and I said that maybe he was right. As I moved away he softly commented that it wouldn't be the first time.

That small interchange caused me to reflect. Actually I do quite a bit of "writing" with my job... and then there's what I'm doing here with blendingtogether at this very moment. For sure we all have a wallet full of labels that we carry around describing our numerous roles in life. Sometimes we act the role of Mother or Father, and other times we are the child. We can also be friends, lovers, workers, drivers, or even the "grump". I guess I'll now add writer to my personal Roll-O-Dex file of choices.

And as for writing, at this very moment I'm writing to you from a lovely rooftop apartment, gazing at a patio full of plants, in the city of Barcelona, Spain. I finally arrived here yesterday after roughly twenty hours of various modes of travel and waiting. Needless to say there was no sleep - who can sleep with all those great movies on the plane?! Switching planes in Paris I saw a coating of new snow on everything, and here in Spain it was raining, with temperatures not much above freezing. But after a great meal and lots of sleep, I see the sun is shining and a full and exciting day awaits us.

This total journey will have us visiting over a dozen locations, but it is only here in Barcelona that we will be lingering for any consistent length of time. In the next five days prepare for plenty of walking, eating, and marveling. The camera and camcorder are charged and ready to go. Lets Explore!
