Tapas

Mon 11 January, 2010

You do so very much for others, don't you? Some take care of children all day and night, many are serving others at a job. Do you labor physically, or might it be the demands for your attention over and over again. And lets not forget those brilliant multi-taskers who can do several things at once. Regardless, I can almost guarantee that those of you reading this message are "giving" of themselves. My question for you today is, "Do you remember to give to yourself as well?" Many of us can become fatigued by life, or even become physically ill, because we forget this vitally important step.

In many places on Planet Earth there are cultures that know how to enjoy, and receive the abundance that life can offer. This isn't just at vacation time, or on the weekend. It's every day.  It's just a little shift in perception that allows us to prioritize whatever brings us Peace before we give - give - give. Don't you put gas in your car before you drive it? Even the Sisters of Charity have a rigid schedule that provides several hours a day towards their own rejuvenation.

To be fair, the issue isn't strictly black and white. When we are doing something happy, inspired, or even joyful the experience can be both receiving and giving at once.   AH, the perfect job! AH, the perfect relationship! Even if it's just those fleeting moments of perfection... we've had a taste of it!

Here in Barcelona there is so much Beauty. Artistry is applied to food, buildings, parks, and even the people are well dressed. There is laughter, hand-holding, and plenty of public kissing, even amongst the elderly. They generally take two hours off in the middle of the day, one to eat and one to siesta. In a museum I saw couches just for people to take a nap.

On Saturday night, I was reflecting on this and decided to go out to dinner just for you. We would have Tapas and toast our appreciation for living... which includes beauty, food, friendship, and family. Here is your Tapas:

(Remember you can click on any photo for a larger version)

Tapas #1Tapas #1Our first selection was the Bacalao. Moist, sweet, slightly salty Cod with pine nuts, mandarin orange and other delicious tidbits. This was accompanied by Cava, Spains version of sparkling wine. You deserved it!

Tapas #2Tapas #2Our second selection was the grilled asparagus; beautifully prepared and presented. Delicious!

Tapas #3Tapas #3For our third we had the skewered shrimp, lying atop a buttered, toasted baguette. But first I had to point to those lovely uncooked shrimps with there heads still attached. Prepared to order!

Tapas #4Tapas #4And finally, we selected the light dessert. We were very full and it was quite late at night. Please forgive me this one indulgence. Skewered fruit kabob with hot chocolate. Here's to YOU!
