Imagining Home

Thu 10 June, 2010

Hello Everyone! I trust that you are enjoying this beautiful month of June. As we move through the days leading up to our next adventure, there have been a few noteworthy events that have come our way. One of our photos from the Mali, Africa journey was selected by the Matador Travel website for inclusion in a recent photo essay asking "what does home look like to you". As we all know a picture can say so much more than words, mostly because the interpretation is left to the beholder. Photographs not only hold the energy of our memories, but they convey a "feeling" much better than words could ever hope to describe. Here is the photo that was selected from our archives:

It was a real honor to be selected.  If you would like to check out the entire photo essay of fifteen (we chimed in at number eleven) just click on this LINK. The entire concept got me to thinking... why not do something similar right here at blendingtogether? Can you think of a photo in your digital album that speaks of "home" to you? If so, please send it to me at the following e-mail address and I'll post them in our next blog entry: Bryn1bc@comcast.net. Not only will it be great to see everyones idea of home, but it will give us a glimpse into who you are. We are a family that travels together, so take a photo, or excavate a favorite, and send us your image of HOME including a caption.

Also, last month I made a week long trip to a town in central Mexico called San Miguel de Allende. The target here was vacation; meaning relaxation and hanging out with a few friends. There was a lot of sleeping, walking, eating, resting, reading a book, and then eating again! The experience was great, and San Miguel was a cultural delight: artsy with a  Mexican authenticity, great weather, great food, and an integration of Western influence. Because it's lovely, and easy on the wallet, many Americans and Canadians have set up permanent or temporary residence there. I've selected a few of my favorite photos from the trip and included them in the photo carousel at the bottom of our Home page.

Our next trip together begins July 21st to Nicaragua. Coincidence or not, Nicaragua was also selected as the next location for the reality television program, Survivor. Our adventure won't be dependent upon interpersonal dramas, surviving off of the land, or back-breaking competitions... but it will be one-hundred-percent exciting in typical blendingtogether fashion. So until then, I hope you enjoy every day, and that you embrace the opportunities for joy that come your way. OH, and send me your photo of "what home means to you" if you wish to be included in our photo exhibition.
