Today is the day. Are you packed and ready to go ??

Thu 12 June, 2008

Over the past few years it has become my custom to travel, at times, on my own.  That sense of freedom is amazing to me, and it really can open your eyes to everyone and everything around you.  Your heart becomes your guide, and you can pick and choose whatever experiences you desire from those that present themselves.  What fun !!

Today, as I prepare to take this exciting solo journey to another land, I am pausing for a moment or two to see how this time things are just a bit different.  This little bird is still flying with all of the excitement of total freedom, but when I look over my shoulder, to the left, and to the right, I see a huge flock of other assorted birds flying with me.  I never, ever thought a journey could get better, but it has... Exponentially.

We are a very large flock, I hope you are as excited as I am.  Please remember that there are no rules here - you can fly quietly, sing a song, or stop and rest awhile.  The comment section following each post is for those of you that would like to chirp - so please be our guest.

Today we fly from Philadelphia to Paris, France.  We've got a bit of a layover at the Paris airport before reaching our final destination in Mali, Africa.  Lets see what we find !!

Thanks to all of you for coming - and for your support.

Bonjour. Avoir une grande

Bonjour. Avoir une grande aventure!

Hello Deb, I hope that all

Hello Deb, I hope that all is well. I will tell you a short story from my life that relates philly, paris, and africa. when i was in high school in SC, i was required to keep a daily journal "en francais". one day, having nothing better to write, i translated the lyrics from paul simon's "under african skies" into my journal with both deftness and acuity. at the time, i really loved the album and fancied myself getting wings and ceasing to bother the common folk. at any rate, i suppose that doesn't really relate to philly other than the fact that i used to live nearby. so, it turns out it's a dumb story after all. but i know it probably made you smile. i will leave you with some of the lyrics, which unfortunately i am unable to translate to french due to the "use it or lose it" clause. i hope that paris was good to you and that you were at least able to find a baguette with jambon and buerre. (i remember that being awesome, but not as awesome as feeding birds from my hand at le sacre coeur.) "Joseph's face was black as night. The pale yellow moon shone in his eyes. His path was marked By the stars in the southern hemisphere, And he walked his days Under african skies. This is the story of how we begin to remember. This is the powerful pulsing of love in the vein. After the dream of falling and calling your name out These are the roots of rhythm, And the roots of rhythm remain." Peaceful journeys, Deb. Please be safe and keep us posted. xoxo kim
