Oslo

Wed 13 May, 2009

Hello out there!!  How was your day/night?  Please don't think it was ordinary... because I've brought all of you with me here to Norway.  Most of you slept on the plane; it was an overnight 7 hour 17 min flight.  We arrived easily and safely at 9:30AM local time.

Now before we get into Oslo, the capital of Norway, I'd like to take just a moment to get everyone on the same page.  There were a few questions before we left.  Yes, I am physically traveling alone. No, I do not know anyone in Norway. And yes, there are no rules. If you want to view the basic itinerary just visit the interactive map. (This is NOT a tour or tour group)  And finally, whenever I use the word WE it means YOU and I. This is a fun opportunity for you to remove any cobwebs from your imagination. Smile

So here we are in Oslo, Norway.  It's a very diverse, European City that lies surrounded by either hills and yonder mountains, or the lovely fjord waters and it's islands. Oslo HarborOslo Harbor  We took a rambling walk this afternoon (you can't get lost) and found many of the same things you can find in any charming, waterside city. We only have one full day here (tomorrow), so I've decided to make you a small movie as my project.  I really don't feel like visiting museums and mansions with just one day.  With a movie you can form your own impressions, and this trip is really about the people anyway.

Here are a few striking observations:  It is really Quiet here. The people seem very Polite. And of course it comes as no surprise that it is very Clean.  It appears that everyone is outdoors... and as a general rule they are utterly attractive and have very nice shoes. (smiles again)

Now lets say a small prayer for good weather tomorrow.

PS, It's 8:30 PM and the sun is not even close to the horizon!

Re: Oslo

48F!!!  Yikes.   My toes curl at the thought.   I am so happy to be a travel voyeur.   It it MUCH better that I am with you in mind and not in body this time, LOL.   Please stay safe and take lots of pictures!  I love to follow your blog.

Re: Oslo

I'm so happy we're finally in Norway! Thanks for being my eyes, ears, taste-buds and legs for the journey! Love to you and all you meet!

Re: Oslo

What did we eat for lunch? I was hungry after that jet lag!

Re: Oslo

Lunch was Gelato. And that was very tasty, especially the black licorice flavor. But dinner was much more interesting...

Re: Oslo

Hi Jack and Karen,  believe it or not it didn't feel very cold... just a bit cool. And it only rained a short spell when I was checking out the mall. Great Job Jack learning how to comment. You are just flying with that new Mac Smile  Hey Karen, I hope you packed your Kindle because we've got a 7 hour train ride tomorrow...

Re: Oslo

Okay, so tell us about dinner. Licorice gelato's not my thing!

Re: Oslo

I guess they don't have Tiger Tail in Oslo.

Re: Oslo

Dironah... it was awesome.  But I must admit to you that it was the only flavor that no one had dipped into yet. More for me! Anyway, the dinner mystery is fulfilled in the Movie... coming very soon.

"Hi", from Dexter and Scoop!

Hey, kiddo.  Glad to see we're off to a good start.

And, don't worry about the weather there (it's pouring in the Lehigh Valley.)

We did a 2.5 hour workout with our friend Jamie this afternoon, so I'm thinking a lot about food.  Keep an eye out for moosereindeer, and smoked salmon (of course) for us!  : )

Re: "Hi", from Dexter and Scoop!

Hey Dave !!  I'm looking for someone who might be interested in telling us why in the world there was a statue of Roosevelt in an Oslo park??? Took his picture for the video.  It seemed very odd, and quite a surprise.  For Dex and Scoop I hope they noticed I have included a doggie segment too Smile

Re: "Hi", from Dexter and Scoop!

President Franklin D. Roosevelt helped to free Norway from German occupation during the Second World War.
