Video: Experiencing Huayna Picchu

Fri 10 June, 2011

After passing through the Sun Gate, we needed to hike down to Machu Picchu to acquire some fantastic photos. At this point we were rather tired. It was nice to know that we had accommodations overnight in Aquas Calientes, where a lovely hotel and superb meal were waiting. There was no hurry because we knew that tomorrow we had all day to explore the Sacred Lost City.

Our following day was open to create: Would you like to tour Machu Picchu with our expert guide, Max? Maybe you'd like to stroll on your own, and split your time with shopping in town? For the really adventuresome and fortunate you could include climbing to the top of Huayna Picchu. Well, if you've noted the title of this mini-movie you know that we climbed. For me, the choice was simple. I sat for a LONG time at the most Sacred point in the Machu Picchu complex, followed by standing in line to hopefully be admitted to climb the mountain. And I hauled you along with me! Not only a physical challenge, that climb tested every ounce of our resolve to control our fear of heights. YIKES!

Upon leaving, we didn't need to walk back to Cusco, we simply took the train to Ollantaytambo, and then a bus to complete our experience through the Sacred Valley. What was next? Lake Titicaca! This is a destination that I have been delightfully expecting for a full year. Something tells me that you are going to love it too.

In real time, I'm about to embark on our final adventure in the South of Bolivia. There may be no internet during that time (or electricity), so please don't worry.

Absolutely breath-taking!

Re: Video: Experiencing Huayna Picchu

Climbing Huayna Picchu was very difficult. I lost count of all the times I thought we were nearing the peak, only to find out we had more to go. The magnificent views were well worth the effort. Going down was ten times harder, I had butterflies in my stomach all the way down. Stay Safe!

Hey Everyone, just checking in at an internet cafe in the middle of nowhere Bolivia. All is well and our smiles are as big as ever! We should have a regular update tomorrow.  See you then, Love your hostess Debra!

PS, Thanks for coming along with me up that tall magical mountain. I could have never done it without your support and occasional shrieks in my ear.
